SPEAKER_03

So I am super excited. I have a great episode planned out for you all. Um, because not only is it the season one finale of making a martini, it's basically the season finale of 2020. And I think we are all ready to kick that bitch goodbye. 2020 has been full of um mostly all bad things. Uh, you know, we went we almost went to war with Iran. Uh, the president was impeached, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, you know, fucking peace out. Kobe Bryant and his daughter are killed in a helicopter crash, and the battle of COVID started. And that was just fucking January. Uh but, but but but but but some good things did come out of this year. Um, we had the first openly gay man run for president and win the Iowa caucus for the Democratic Party. Okay, as Pete Buj. That's how I like to say his name. Uh Parasite was the first South Korean film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and in fact, the first film of a language other than English to win the award for best picture. The world got to fall in love with uh Joe Exotic from Tiger King, and then collectively loathe Jessica from Love is Blind. Uh you know, the world got a little quieter for a while with the coronavirus until it wasn't time to be quiet anymore with rampant racial injustices that are still being defended to this day. Uh, you know, we got to see the darker side of humanity as we edged closer and closer to the election. Uh, probably probably the biggest election of all of our lifetimes. I also like that I got to use the word edged um in my intro. And for any gay people, you'll you'll laugh at it, I think, maybe. Edged closer and closer is what I said. So anyway. Uh we so with the election, we got to see the biggest voter turnout in history. Uh, and we got to see so many of the processes behind the election that we never would have normally seen. We elected the first woman and the first woman of color into the role of vice president of the United States. Uh over the course of the year, we lost so many legends in the worlds of entertainment and politics. We've lost over 300,000 lives to the coronavirus, and on a personal note, my grandfather was one of them. We were able to create a vaccine to stop the spread of COVID, to help stop it, you know, if everyone fucking gets vaccinated. And to everyone listening right now, we were able to make it through the year that was 2020. And and for that, I am incredibly grateful and so incredibly glad to have each and every one of you listening right now. And so the theme of this episode is the 2020 send-off. You know, we're gonna be talking with a lot of the guests you've heard on the show thus far, um, as we all collectively punch 2020 in the cunt and say goodbye. Uh and the cocktail of this episode is simple, it's champagne, because we need to celebrate the end of this year and welcome 2021 with open arms. So this isn't going to be a super knowledgeable or in-depth episode. Um, it's just gonna be, you know, hearing some success stories from 2020, uh, and you know, what we'd like to say to 2020 as we leave it. Uh, so without further ado, let's get let's get started. We're gonna be talking with Brianna from the Christmas episode, Caleb from the Harry Potter episode, and Hank and Amanda from the Aging episode. Here we go. Hey Brianna. Hey Caleb. Hi, welcome back. It's been so long since you've been on the podcast.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, an eternity.

SPEAKER_03

Like, I mean, barely even an episode ago.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, yeah, but eons. Eons. Nonetheless.

SPEAKER_03

Um, well, happy new year. Happy New Year to you too. New year and new year's New Year. New Year. Like daylight saving time. It's not daylight savings time, you dumb fucks.

SPEAKER_09

What is this? We just like want to make everything plural, like one's not enough.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, really. I don't need another 2020. 2020 is but speaking of 2020, since we're here. Um, Brianna, I would love if you could just share with us like celebrate the wins of 2020. What's something super great that happened to you in 2020?

SPEAKER_09

Okay, so I think that's a really interesting question. Oh my god, thank you. Wow, what a genius.

SPEAKER_03

Um groundbreaking.

SPEAKER_09

Uh it is really interesting because so many people I mean, so many of us have this like negative connotation of 2020 because so many things were canceled and we're like meant to stay at home and not be social, um, which hurts my heart a little bit for sure. But if I'm gonna say one thing that's been positive about 2020, is that I was furloughed. I know that sounds kind of funny.

SPEAKER_03

Congratulations.

SPEAKER_09

I was laid off. But what came out of that is that I just I got time to just sit still for once. And I think a lot of people were in the same place of like just not having to work. And I think we as Americans, I'm gonna I'm gonna go pretty well here.

SPEAKER_07

All right, all right.

SPEAKER_09

I think we as Americans, we just work ourselves to the bone. So for me, it was like finishing my house projects that I had just put off for so long.

SPEAKER_03

Finishing your house.

SPEAKER_09

Finishing my house. Yeah, but having a shower.

SPEAKER_03

Which is you did have one. You now have one.

SPEAKER_09

It's nice, it's very nice to not go to my grandparents to shower. Yeah. Um, I don't know how I made that possible for so long. Um But like sort of those things about like taking care of the things that are around me and and myself, and honestly just thinking about like work-life balance because I I wasn't working and all of a sudden I had all these opportunities to do things. You know?

SPEAKER_03

I do. Yeah. You got a little time back.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, it made me really think about like what's important.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and the grand thing. Which I mean after 2020 is important to think about what's important. Um well to sort of uh send 2020 away. Do you have any final words for 2020? Oh, please let us hear them.

SPEAKER_09

Several colorful ones, but I will say um that was in my chair.

SPEAKER_03

In case it sounds like a fart when I listen to that.

SPEAKER_09

Okay, all right. We did have our food for dinner, so we did.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you, William Penn Tavern.

SPEAKER_09

Thank you, William Pentaver.

SPEAKER_03

Shamelessly, maybe they'll be my sponsor. I'll eat it every episode. Yeah. So many things.

SPEAKER_09

Um my last words for 2020 are thank you for making me pause. I think so often, and hopefully I'm not the only one, um, get very caught up in our job. And it was really nice to not, you know, a vacation is something different, like time off is something different. So just being forced to absolutely pause was kind of a gift.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. I like that that ended positively so far. Um the general consensus is fuck you. Um but I loved it. That was very heartfelt. So um I appreciate that. 2020 might, but I don't give a fuck if 2020, what 2020 feels.

SPEAKER_09

2020 is a bitch.

SPEAKER_03

It's a big bitch, but it did give you that, so that is good. Um, all right, Brianna. Well, thank you so much for coming back and talking with me. I appreciate it, and happy new year.

SPEAKER_09

Happy New Year.

SPEAKER_03

Just get right the fuck into it. Uh hello, Caleb. Welcome back.

SPEAKER_01

What up, bitches. Wait, can I curse on here?

SPEAKER_03

Of course you can curse. I mean Oh, perfect. I think in our episode I said cunt twice. And on this one, I said it at least once. You're the first interview of this of this episode, by the way. So, well, welcome back, Caleb. Thank you so much. Um, for anyone who does not remember um or hasn't listened yet, which if you haven't, then fuck you. Um I'm just kidding. I love you. Uh, but Caleb was the guest of the uh uh Harry Potter episode Avada Some Vodka, which I think was my most creative episode title yet. No one said anything about it, so I'm saying something about it now.

SPEAKER_01

Now everyone should go flood his DMs and we'll let him know.

SPEAKER_03

I thought that was clever. I'm brilliant. JK Rowling should write me a check. Um, I've been I've been um I've been dot dot dot as he's pandemic, man. Swirl your wine glass. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Pandemic has been challenging.

SPEAKER_03

A pandemic all the way. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Cheers. But I'm still here, so and apparently everyone has listening to this.

SPEAKER_03

That's right. That's true. And and I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful that you're here. I'm grateful that people are listening, maybe. Um so one when we were sort of talking before I actually started recording this interview. I thought of something um that we had talked about in the episode that has become uh maybe just it maybe it might have just been a meme. I don't know if it's real or not. I don't know if it's serious. No pun intended serious blast. But um somebody posted something, and I saw it on Facebook and I was scrolling. I don't remember if I tagged you in it, I might have just like put you in the comments, so you might not have even noticed it. But um somebody wants to make a Harry Potter, no, well, a movie about Snape when he was younger, and they want um oh shit fucker. I forget his name. It's the guy from Star Wars, the new ones. Uh don't watch Adam Driver. Adam Driver with like the long black hair. Uh we'll look him up. Just do a quick little Google search and just Adam Driver long black hair. And uh they want him to play young Snape, and it's gonna be his like rise to becoming a Death Eater and getting out of it and his childhood and and stuff like that. So there's potential talk, right? Right, there's potential talk of there being a pre-Harry Potter Snape movie, which is something that we brought up in our episode, and I think it was my idea, to be honest, so I should give credit.

SPEAKER_01

That's another I love Harry Potter. JK needs to get her shit together first, or just go away. That too.

SPEAKER_03

But um, so anyway, we're here to give 2020 the send-off. It uh deserves seem like the wrong word, seems like the wrong word. Um but uh but I I I do want to focus a little bit on a positive, try to end this year on a positive if it's at all possible, and I want to celebrate the wins of 2020. And so for you, Caleb with a K. Um what was the what was fuck up? What was the best thing that's happened to you in 2020 if you had a 2020 crowning achievement?

SPEAKER_01

Um man, 2020 has been rough, as I mentioned before. However, I have learned the value of self-love, self-care, the importance of healing, um, of getting lost in not only myself, but my passions and being okay with that. Um I'm a pretty confident and independent person in general, which you obviously know. But what people tell what people don't know or may not know um is I have like this very limited social media. And when my extroverted side is fulfilled and my social media depletes, I'm gone from that situation. Because I what I've noticed in the past few years of just exploring um myself and coming into you know my true self is I can be the laugh of the party, but only for a certain amount of time. But when that time comes, I you find if I'm still in that area or in that situation, I'm in a corner somewhere, just all quiet, just observing and taking everyone in and taking everything in. And I get very, I want to say analytical about things, and I like study people's movements, the way they interact with other people, and I like it just like I'm like, what am I doing? What what's going on? I need to have time. But like my social media is drained, so I'm like, I gotta recoup, and my recoup is being alone, and you know, some people can can attest to that, but others just like go, go, go, go, go. I'm like, uh-uh, I got a battery. Yeah, then lasts all day or all night.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I think I think a lot of people get lost in you know, seeing posts on Facebook or Instagram about about COVID, about the election, about Trump, about vaccines, about Harry Potter pre-Snape movies. Um and uh and I think you can really lose sight of I mean I there were definitely points where I for sure lost sight of like the bigger picture because I would just get like frustrated or whatever. But I think that that like self-realization is is awesome and super fucking commendable. So I'll drink tea. I'll drink tea flip. Yeah, yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Per usual.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that's awesome, and then um so Caleb, any final words that you have for 2020?

SPEAKER_01

Uh fuck you, 2020. First and foremost. Rough, rough funeral, literally. Um honestly, like I just don't want to forget about 2020 because a lot has happened in 2020 while we're still in the end of 2020. Um I want to move forward with 2021 with so many positive things. Yeah. So yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That was that was nice. That was succinct, it was perfect. You got to also air some grievances. Say fuck you, 2020. I wonder if there's anyone who I wonder if there's anyone that's not gonna start off by saying, well, first of all, fuck you. Literally. I mean, that's what I would probably say too. I probably will. I don't even know if I'm gonna answer these questions. Um well, Caleb, thank you so much for coming back. I super appreciate it. I wish you the happiest of new years in this COVID world. Celebrate drinks, drink some for me.

SPEAKER_01

Do you do you really?

SPEAKER_03

I do wish you. I wish you a new year.

SPEAKER_01

First of all, well, yeah. A new COVID year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, a new year. A due year.

SPEAKER_01

Well, thank you for having me. I always enjoy being on the pod.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Well, we'll have you back for season two. This is season one finale. It's the first time I've well no, I've said it before. I'm trying to think. Doing these out of order. No, it really doesn't. And I have it written down in front of me. Um, well, thank you, Caleb. I appreciate it.

SPEAKER_01

Of course.

SPEAKER_03

All right. Uh, we will be right back.

SPEAKER_04

Hey, you guys.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, dude. That was it.

SPEAKER_07

Hey. Oh, that's all right, man.

SPEAKER_04

I thought you were just, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Demonstrating. Um, no, I was saying hello and welcome back.

SPEAKER_04

Yes. It's good. We're good. We're happy to be back.

SPEAKER_03

I'm happy to have you.

SPEAKER_08

It's so good to be back.

SPEAKER_03

It's, I mean, it's so good to even see you guys right now. I'm hard looking at you. You can't see it, but I am. Um, so uh, what I want from you guys, I just want you to tell me, like, and you can figure out who goes first, whatever. But what is, you know, what is one thing that happened in 2020 that you're like, fuck yeah, that did happen, and I'm glad.

SPEAKER_04

Did Mitch McConnell die yet? Oh no, wait, that's the future. Let me check my phone. Let me check my phone. You never know. I keep checking resolution. Well, yeah, we'll we'll get there. Um, you can go first.

SPEAKER_08

Tank is gonna feel really bad because what I want to say about 2020 is um Tank and or Henry uh became my roommate this year. And if we're looking at good things that happened in 2020 for anyone, but it's really good to have Tank as my roommate.

SPEAKER_03

I love that.

SPEAKER_08

He yeah, he's gonna say it's fucking dumb.

SPEAKER_04

So no, no, no. It was, it was a it was a good decision. Um living alone was rough.

SPEAKER_08

And for me too, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Especially when the pandemic started, like it's like you can't stay inside, and same here.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, I was living alone in during the pandemic, and um Nino is fine, but it was also like not good. So when Hank was like, Hey, do you think I could like move into your extra room? I was like, no discussion further. Yes, please, yeah. Um, so yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I love that. Yeah. Um mine's not as uh touching because that was really nice. Uh I don't think it's stupid at all. But um stupid. Um, but I have beaten a lot of video games since uh quarantine has happened. I actually beat Super Mario Sunshine today and our game. Oh my god. Oh my god, he on X Games mode. But that's the thing with the pandemic, it's hard to do anything anymore. I mean, being purple, like I can't do shows anymore. I'm teaching virtually, so I don't do anything. So I just play those vision games.

SPEAKER_03

I love that. Fucking love it, bruh. Um do you guys have uh any last words that you'd like to say to 2020 before we uh kick her right in the cunt? Or him, you know.

SPEAKER_04

It's probably they, yes, yes, they. Um, yeah, I have I have nothing to say to that bitch. She has caused so much strife and trouble in people's lives. I was thinking like what would be the best like phrase to use, but the and it's lame, but the only one I could think of was wait, hold on, I have to remember how it goes again. Hold on, hold on, don't worry, don't worry, I remember it. Um oh yeah. Uh no, don't let the door hit you where the good lord splits you. That's what it is. Oh you bitch.

SPEAKER_03

Suck my fat ass. Amanda.

SPEAKER_08

I think um, yeah, I just have to say a big old fuck you to 2020 because you know, even before the pandemic, I have not been able to see my family.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Because you know, they live in Delaware and I live far away from my family.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And uh with this, given my family's I'm like, no, don't see me because of the pandemic or whatever. So yeah, it's it's just a giant fat. Fuck you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. Fuck you.

SPEAKER_08

Fuck you. Yeah. And also, you have made me be very lazy and fat.

SPEAKER_03

So I'm happy that we're all gonna be lazy and fat together.

SPEAKER_08

Except yeah, but also fuck you for that. So, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Um, all right. Well, you guys, thank you so much for coming back and happy 2021, you fucking fucks.

SPEAKER_04

Right around the corner, baby.

SPEAKER_03

I love you. I'll talk to you soon. Bye. Alright, and up next we are going to be hearing from uh Jess from the voting episode, uh, from Adele from all of the episodes. Uh no, but um Adele from Let's Talk About Sex, Adele from Millennials and Memoriam, Adele from the Christmas episode. Uh you know, a season one favorite. Probably a season two favorite. And uh we're also gonna hear from Lisa Ann Goldsmith and Owen Thompson uh from the Shakespeare episode. Here we go. Hi Jess, welcome back.

SPEAKER_10

Hello, thanks for having me again.

SPEAKER_03

I couldn't not have you back.

SPEAKER_10

I know.

SPEAKER_03

I'm kind of a star, just a bright shining beacon of hope and love.

SPEAKER_02

Sure, yeah. Love, hopefully that's when you look it up in the dictionary and you find a picture of somebody else.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you're um how have you been? Anything, you know, what's going on? Well, we last talked about your voting. Um for anyone who hasn't listened yet, Jess was featured on the episode your right to vote. Um, and we talked a little about why it's important to vote. Um, obviously, if you listen to the episode, uh things went pretty well for us.

SPEAKER_07

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Um I mean yeah, so you know, whatever.

SPEAKER_02

But um but having been cheers to that, queer just you know, working a lot, doing a lot of holiday shopping, spending more money than I probably should, but we're in a pandemic, so like what else is there to do?

SPEAKER_03

What else is there to do? I know I've spent more money this year because I'm like point and click, and I'm done.

SPEAKER_02

I love online shopping though. Like some people like to test, but like I love online shopping.

SPEAKER_03

Drive for it. I will say this is like the year that I've been the most prepared. I think I actually talked about this with Caleb.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, well, hey Caleb. The other Caleb.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Caleb with a K. Loser. Um, no, I'm just kidding. I love you. Um Well, Jess, we are finally at the end of this fuck of a year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, we're here.

SPEAKER_03

So I I wanna I wanna give it a little bit of credit because not everything could have been terrible. So I'm asking everyone, what's like the best thing that happened to you in 2020? Your 2020 crowding achievement.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, probably launching my brand. Like, I don't think I would have been able to do it if it wasn't for the pandemic because it forced me to really make sure it was ready to execute, and then you know that it sucks that you know during you know, we got the pandemic and you know, people were struggling, but I was grateful that I was able to use my platform to bring awareness and help people and raise over 8,000 meals for those in need. So I think you know, hand in hand it worked really well. So being able to do that was pretty awesome. So I would say launching my brand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think I would say so. Yeah, and um your brand, we talk about both of them on your episode, but as a little reminder, it is one minute, and you can find them on Instagram.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, my website, J Buckman Talon, which speaking of, I was able to safely shoot like photo shoots and do commercials, and I just did a commercial the other day, which would be my first one in Pittsburgh, so that's really fun. So that's a possibility.

SPEAKER_03

There we go. Oh, you got two great things happening in 2020, bitch.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, let's do it.

SPEAKER_03

Let's do it. Well, so like I said, we're at the end of it.

SPEAKER_10

Um, do you have any any final words that you'd like to say to 2020 as we 2020, you goddamn son of a bitch. Was that unbelievable?

SPEAKER_03

Um, yes, it was.

SPEAKER_02

You know, you were I think 2020 really obviously tested all of us, like I've been tested in in many different ways. But you know, um we all struggled with different things during 2020, you know, mental health. Um I mean, I think that was just like the big one out of all of it. But you know, you lost a lot of friends during it, not like I mean, maybe death, but like I'm saying like you found out who your true people were. And you know, I had a really great friend. I was, you know, going through some struggles, and they were like, you know what? Once a day we're gonna tell you're gonna tell me something positive about yourself and something that made you happy. Like you go through the day and it's such a shitty day, but like there are positives out of the day, even if there's something little, even if it's something like you giving a compliment to somebody and them saying, like, wow, like that really made my day, like that should make you feel good inside. So, you know, I think that friend a lot for that because if it wasn't for that, I feel like I wouldn't not that I don't have anything to look forward to, but it really makes me value that even in this such crummy time, you have to find an opportunity in the obstacle. So yeah, I love that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, perfect. And Jess, so I just wanted to thank you for talking with me and coming back. I'm sure we'll have you back on in season two. It'll be great. Oh my god. Um, all right, everyone. We will be right back. Oh, hey there, Adele.

SPEAKER_05

Hey, Caleb.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, welcome the fuck back.

SPEAKER_05

You know what, Caleb, as a lifelong member of the Making Martini guest list, I just want to say thank you for having me once again.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, it wouldn't be a season one finale without you.

SPEAKER_05

I know, I know, that's what I thought.

SPEAKER_03

Could you imagine if I did do it without you?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I think it would be.

SPEAKER_03

I think it would probably have been fine. Um but not in my eyes, but in the rest of the world. Uh in it the world. The world. Um so well, Adele, it's uh happy almost New Year. It's New Year's Eve in a couple hours.

SPEAKER_05

Um, I mean it's New Year's Eve today. Today, yeah, but it will be New Year's Eve in the Eve. Yeah, I mean I'm excited to be here. We made it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we did make it.

SPEAKER_05

We freaking made it.

SPEAKER_03

We got well, no, that's not jinx it. We we haven't made it to 2021 yet.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah, the world could end. At the rate we're going, the world could end.

SPEAKER_03

The world could end. Um, but speaking of 2020, uh, you know, what I wanna what I want from you is just give me like, you know, something that you are super proud of um in 2020, like a win that you had, like what a good thing that happened to you in 2020.

SPEAKER_05

Um so it's like a bad turned good thing. Like I spent a lot of time with myself and I learned that I am uh obnoxious. I'm like, God, this bitch has so much anxiety. Like, what is her deal? But because I I I spent a lot of time with myself, I learned a lot about myself, um, you know, for the positive stuff. And I uh was able to figure out like kind of things that I wanted to do out of life. I started like my YouTube channel because of it. Um I yeah, I got featured on Pop Sugar. I've been featured on this brilliant podcast, but which is the most important out of all those things. Absolutely. It's definitely the one that pays me the most.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um, but I have really just started to like kind of make more of a name for myself because everyone knows that I um just want to be famous. So, you know, I'm I'm heading in that direction. No, but in all honesty, um I've just you know been working on making a name for myself and I spent a lot of time organizing my house, and I am uh really appreciative of of having that that time and that opportunity to do that.

SPEAKER_03

Fucking solid. Um and now as we you know get to the end, the literal end of 2020. Do you have any final or parting words for 2020?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. Um, if I were to look 2020 in the face, I would say stop. Um, but now I guess I'm getting that wish.

SPEAKER_03

You are. That's what we're actually gonna say when the ball drops.

SPEAKER_05

Stop. It's been it's been a year.

SPEAKER_03

We I mean we were literally just talking about things that happened back in January, and we were like, oh, that was this year.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. It's it seems like such a blur. Like, like I I can't remember. I remember we went out for Valentine's Day, like we did a thing, and I keep thinking that that was a lifetime ago. And I was like, it was just in February, like it really wasn't that wasn't that long ago.

SPEAKER_03

It's like every month was its own year.

SPEAKER_05

It was. It's crazy. And we were just talking about this, but 2019, when 2019 finished, we could not wait to jump into 2020.

SPEAKER_03

We we said how horrible of a year 2019 had been.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and I can't recall a single thing that happened that I not not one fucking thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't remember.

SPEAKER_05

I really think that we spoke this this year into um into the we did this to the world. I'm sorry, everyone.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's really actually our fault. Um and scooters. Uh well Adele, thank you so much for uh talking with me for the fourth time at the most the most um exonerated guest. Exonerated?

SPEAKER_05

What the hell does that mean?

SPEAKER_03

That's like when you get off from not like when you get off, but like when you um get acquitted of a crime, you're exonerated. I'm sure it has another meaning too. But uh I was gonna say the most used guest, but then in my mind that didn't sound right. But thank you. I mean, you're welcome. You're the most guest.

SPEAKER_05

The most guest. Well, thanks for having me. I really appreciate it. It's been a really fun year with you.

SPEAKER_03

Don't condescend to me. Um but happy new year. I wish you nothing but the best. Um, this is the last time we're ever speaking.

SPEAKER_05

Bye. Bye, bit.

SPEAKER_03

It's been nice knowing you. Bye.

SPEAKER_05

Bye. See you in a few hours.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Okay, yeah. See you in a few hours. Okay. Happy New Year. Welcome back, you guys. Hi. Thanks, Caleb. Yeah, absolutely. Uh so you guys, uh, for anyone who doesn't remember, Lisa Ann and Owen are from episode four, uh, the Shakespeare episode. Um, they have their own podcast, the Bardcast. It's Shakespeare You Dick. Go back and listen if you haven't already. Um, and you guys are on episode 15.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. We just finished episode 15. That's it for 2020.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, that's right. This is it for 2020 for me. Literally the last possible day to put a podcast out. Um and so what I want to kind of just go over today is just uh to start off with by celebrating your wins for 2020. Let's talk about something good, something actually good that happened. Um for you guys.

SPEAKER_06

Well, the podcast clearly was natural for sure. It was the best thing. I mean, I think it it kept me sane throughout 2020.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. For sure. I'm very I'm very proud and and happy about the podcast. But I I would also say that for for me, uh the biggest win of 2020 was reconnecting with friends that I haven't really con I mean, Lisa Ann and I are always in touch, but we haven't, we've been, we become like almost daily friends again.

SPEAKER_06

Which is amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Which is amazing. And I there are a ton of people that I'm I'm in contact with in a very serious way that I wasn't before. So I'm really that that's my biggest win for 2020.

SPEAKER_06

I agree. It's amazing what like you know, stress and pandemic conditions can do for your friendships with people. Um the other big win for me, uh, which has nothing to do with the podcast or anything, is uh getting our rescue cat beaker in the house finally after a year and a half. Yeah, beaker. He's gained like three pounds since we got him in the house two months ago. No kidding.

SPEAKER_03

That's great. Yeah, that's amazing. Um I love those. I love both of those. So this is my favorite part because so far everyone's answer has started off the same. If you can guess what it is. Uh do you uh either of you have any final words for 2020?

SPEAKER_06

Yes, as a matter of fact, 2020, you can suck Satan's left titty nipple in hell.

SPEAKER_00

Nice. What I would personally like to say to 2020 is short and sweet. 2020, you can gobble my crank and gargle my man molasses.

SPEAKER_06

In hell.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I have to say that's not what everyone else said.

SPEAKER_06

Owen is a unique individual.

SPEAKER_03

I think the sentiment is still the same. Hashtag truth. I'm so excited because I've auto I've already decided that that's gonna be the soundbite for the preview.

SPEAKER_06

I was just I was showing Caleb before you got on Owen that my my oh Don and I always get each other ornaments for Christmas, and mine was that I had these like die cut in wood, and then I painted and glittered them. And it is a snowflake that says all around it fuck 2020.

SPEAKER_03

It's beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

It's beautiful, that'll be a collector's item. Yeah, it will be.

SPEAKER_03

Well, thank you guys so much for talking with me. I hope you both have just an amazing new year.

SPEAKER_06

Where are we going?

SPEAKER_03

I totally sand. I said, I think I'm gonna watch the airplane movies for New Year's Eve. My New Year's Day tradition is that I always make um kibasi and sauerkraut and I watch blazing saddles. I don't know why. It has nothing to do with New Year. I've just done it every year. Yeah, so that's my plan. But uh why not?

SPEAKER_06

They were a Christmas present. It's true. Hashtag true. Hashtag true.

SPEAKER_03

Um well anyway, thank you guys so much. I appreciate it.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Anytime.

SPEAKER_03

All right, and there you have it. That was a little recap from everyone, almost everyone. Um I I I figured it might be a little weird if I didn't answer the same question, so um, well, for me, the best thing that happened in 2020 uh was that I got to start this podcast. Um and it's been a bit of a godsend, really, to be able to have this sort of creative um outlet for that part of my brain to really focus on during uh this whole time. And it was something I really needed, and I think a lot of people really needed, you know, that same kind of outlet this year. Um so I'm very grateful to have had this opportunity. Um and this podcast really turned into something that I was not expecting, uh, to be honest. You know, I've had 500 downloads in three months, um, I've been heard on four continents, nine different countries, and over a hundred cities. And I I think, based on the data that has been provided to me by the website that tells me everything about my podcast, um, that I have one dedicated fan in Slichy, Ile de France. I hope you like that little French flair. I hope I said that right. I had to go on YouTube to figure out how to say it because I was saying it wrong based on what I thought. Um so to my fan out there, a special shout out to whomever you are, and thank you so much for listening and continuing to listen. Uh, with this podcast, I got the opportunity to inform people on topics that maybe not everyone thinks about on a daily basis. Or maybe you do. I don't know. Maybe a lot of people spend a time thinking about random sex terms and why Shakespeare is important or why Grease 2 is better than Grease 1. Although I have to say, based on the downloads of that episode, I don't think many of you think about that, but what the fuck ever. Um I got to have a a serious conversation on race and racism in the world, and got to create my own Hallmark movie and even sing a little bit. Um tiny tiny bit. But uh, you know, honestly, I think most importantly I got the chance to make you laugh. Or at least I mean, don't want to assume, but I hope I did. I hope you laughed. And uh and so with that, I would have to say that my last words to 2020 would have to be thank you for giving me this opportunity. Um, but also fuck you. Just to go say stay in line with everyone else. And uh I want to kind of end this with the idea of New Year's resolutions because I think I've always kind of hated the idea of them. Um there's just something about the idea that we need to find something that we don't like about ourselves and something that we give ourselves a one-year time limit to change. And yeah, like sometimes I I I some of them are probably fine. Like I before I even started thinking about this podcast, in my mind, my New Year's resolution was to read only banned books. Because I thought, well, that would be kind of cool. Um, but I mean there are other ones out there where it's like, you know what, I'm going to lose weight this year. And yes, that is fine. If you want to lose weight, then you absolutely should, but don't do it because there's a stigma to have a New Year's resolution to do it. Do it because it's something that you want to do, and don't give yourself a year to do it. Give yourself as much time as you think you need. You. Uh huh. But I I just think it's a lot of pressure to put on ourselves. I mean, I remember one year I failed my resolution in about two hours. So, you know. Um, I thought about it, and I decided that I wanted to talk about what we all want out of 2021. And I mean, 2020 didn't give us much except just a lot of despair. But uh, you know, I asked everyone what they wanted out of 2021, or what they would be, or what they hoped would change, and that's what we're gonna kind of end with here. And I will start us off. I want 2021 to be full of laughter.

SPEAKER_01

I want 2021 to be compassionate, to be full of necessary change and enlightenment.

SPEAKER_04

In 2021, I'll be the new face of Jeopardy.

SPEAKER_08

I would really like to not see racism be a thing in 2021. Like open to adventure.

SPEAKER_06

Monetize the pod.

SPEAKER_00

I I'm scared to say anything about 2021. 2020 was a big bad bitch, and I'm afraid 2021 could be worse.

SPEAKER_05

I want 2021 to be better than 2020.

SPEAKER_03

And there you have it. Thank you so much from everyone here at Making a Martini. Uh, I've had an absolute blast this year, and I can't wait to bring more content to you in season two. To everyone out there, have an amazing and happy new year. And we will see you next time on Making a Martini. Up, dry, and straight to the point.
